Attention please...
APT needs your help! With the coming year we have a large turn-over of the board, and are in need of folks to help out. I will also need to put some focus back onto my own career which took a back seat to APT over the last two years. We have a great future in 2013 if we can get some of these roles filled. Right now there are too many responsibilities for too few people.
We need a Treasurer, Newsletter Co-Editor, Event Chair, PR Chair, Secretary, Grant Writer, and a Fundraiser. Contact me for more information if you are willing to help in any capacity.
A big thanks to our incoming Membership Chair for 2013, Al Moore!
If you are interested in becoming part of the APT team or serving on a committee, let me know. More on the 2013 April APT show coming soon.

Taking Inventory of Your Art
| |
As this year comes to an end, it's the perfect time to start preparing for a fresh start in the coming year. Six simple ways to stay ahead of the game...
1. When was the last time you updated the inventory list for your art? (Prices, titles, groupings, series or categories?)
2. Do you date your work? Some artists like knowing when the art was made, but dating your work can make it tougher to sell if it's taking a while to find its rightful owner. It's best to keep records of this elsewhere.
3. When was the last time you updated your business cards? If not done at a printer, these can be created and ordered online at less cost. Your own artwork uploaded as a section of the card can add a personal touch, as long as you keep it simple and uncluttered. 4. Do you have a color brochure of your work? Does it reflect what you currently do, and want to accomplish with your art? Does it mention how your work is unique? If your brochure is over a year old, it may be time to update it. Here are things you might include... a) Contact information, a brief bio, brief artist's statement, with titles and dimensions under photos of work.
b) Make sure photos of art are clear, crisp and high enough resolution to print well.
c) Do not put too wide a range of your work on the brochure, people don't want to see a hodgepodge, they want to see a cohesive body of work or series recognizable as yours.
d) If you have gallery representation, it's best to leave off prices.
5. Attend gallery openings where your work is featured and be on hand to represent and discuss your work. Part of making sales in art is establishing a personal connection with the buyer. Collectors are fascinated with how your art came to fruition. Personal stories about your art are a bridge from you as the artist to the collector, and these add to the joy of owning great art work! 6. Update your website, and market like crazy! Business cards, magnets, calenders, pens; whatever you can sell or give away with your work on it improves your chances of standing out in the art crowd! If you have no agent, gallery or professional representation, marketing your art can require at least half of your time, probably more; so let creating art be your reward. Even if you do have a professional rep or agent, keep all of the information mentioned above up to date to stay current in the art market. |
